Side Effects and Complications

Nose revision surgery may involve certain side effects and complications. Below are some common scenarios:

1. Infection: Postoperative wound infection is one of the more common complications, characterized by redness, swelling, discharge, and increased pain at the wound site. Infection may impair wound healing and even lead to surgical failure. To prevent infection, patients must strictly follow the surgeon's postoperative care instructions and keep the wound clean and dry.

2. Bleeding: Bleeding may occur during or after the surgery. Minor bleeding can typically be managed through methods such as pressure application, but significant bleeding may require further medical intervention.

3. Unsatisfactory Aesthetic Outcome: Due to improper surgical technique or individual anatomical differences, the revised nose may appear undesirable, such as a dorsal bridge that is too high or too low, an asymmetrical nasal tip, or unnatural alar shape. In such cases, a secondary revision surgery may be necessary.

4. Rejection Reaction: If synthetic implants or injectable fillers are used, rejection reactions may occur, presenting as localized swelling, pain, or fever. If a rejection reaction occurs, immediate medical attention is required, and removal of the material may be necessary.

Side Effects

The side effects of nose revision surgery overlap somewhat with the complications mentioned above. The following are some common side effects:

1. Swelling and Pain: Postoperative swelling and pain of varying degrees are normal physiological responses. These symptoms typically subside within a few days after surgery. However, if swelling and pain worsen or are accompanied by other abnormal symptoms, medical attention should be sought promptly.

2. Skin Changes: Surgery may cause alterations in the nasal skin, such as hyperpigmentation or thinning of the skin. While these changes often improve over time, some patients may experience them persistently.

3. Sensory Abnormalities: Temporary sensory changes, such as numbness or tingling, may occur on the nasal skin after surgery. These are usually caused by nerve irritation during the procedure and typically resolve within a few months.
